The handover of five DAF LF55 18 tonners to Northamptonshire palletised distribution operator Freightroute marks a 20 year relationship with the supplying dealer Brian Currie (Milton Keynes) Ltd.
The new DAFs join a fleet that provides nationwide pallet delivery services through eight mainland UK depots supported by 14 satellite depots and two depots in Ireland. Together these provide coverage to all parts of the British Isles and today Freightroute carries over half a million pallets annually across the UK and Ireland with its fleet of 140 vehicles and 100 trailers.
Brian Currie comments: “We sold our first DAF to Freightroute 20 years ago soon after the company had been established and since then both companies have enjoyed an excellent and mutually beneficial relationship.
“Over the past two decades we have seen their family-run business grow substantially and we’re delighted that our dealership has played some part in that success by providing high quality, reliable and fuel efficient trucks backed by first class service and parts support.”
Lawrence David 8.5 metre ‘Fuelsaver’ bodies are fitted to the 5.85 metre wheelbase DAFs and each is equipped with a 1500 kg Dhollandia cantilever tail lift for palletised load deliveries. The bodies feature a curved roof to improve aerodynamics which very neatly aligns with the adjustable roof spoiler on the day cabs, contributing further to the renowned fuel economy of the DAFs achieved through good driveline matching.
Power is from the 6.7 litre DAF GR165 six-cylinder engine rated at 220 bhp (165 kW) at between 1900 and 2500 rpm and which has a torque output of 850 Nm at between 1200 and 1700 rpm. The GR engine meets both the Euro 5 and EEV emissions standards through the use of a common rail injection system and SCR technology. It is matched to a six speed AS-tronic automated transmission with a 11.5 tonne parabolic SR1132 rear axle completing the driveline.
The trucks are backed by a two-year warranty with safety inspections and routine maintenance being carried out in Freightroute’s own well- equipped workshops at its headquarters at Irthlingborough. Brian Currie will provide parts support through its Northampton site.
