Iveco dealer Hendy Van & Truck has delivered the first concrete mixer to be built on Iveco’s rugged new Trakker Hi-Land 8×4 chassis in the UK.
Launched at last year’s CV Show, the Trakker Hi-Land AT340T41B becomes the second Iveco to join Southampton-based Johnston Services’ five-strong fleet of mixers. It will be used to deliver loads of concrete and mortar to construction sites as far as Oxford in the north, Weymouth in the west and Brighton in the east.
Iain Johnston, Director, says: “We have already got a previous generation Trakker on the fleet which has been excellent on fuel and the drivers love it. It was also our first multi-wheeler with an automated transmission and since then we haven’t looked back.”
The company has specified its latest 32-tonner with an EEV-rated 12.88-litre FPT Industrial Cursor 13 engine, which is capable of producing up to 410 hp between 1,380 and 1,900 rev/min, plus 2,100 Nm of torque between 900 and 1,380 rev/min. This engine features a fixed-geometry turbo and a waste-gate valve, and guarantees the torque necessary to cope with the most challenging terrain when making deliveries off-road.
Johnston adds: “Everything about this new generation vehicle is exactly right; the chassis, driveline and cab are perfectly set-up for our type of work.”
The new Trakker Hi-Land will be in operation five and a half days per week, including night work, and is expected to clock up to 50,000 km per annum. It will remain on fleet with Johnston Services for at least six years, with all servicing undertaken by Hendy Van & Truck.
Commenting on the aftersales support, Johnston explains: “Whatever brand of truck you operate, ensuring you’ve got a first rate dealer to support you is essential. The team at Hendy is a cut above the rest – they’ll handle all of our servicing and maintenance requirements for this new Trakker.”
The Trakker Hi-Land stands-out for its revised day cab design which ensures drivers enjoy the levels of comfort offered by the road-going Stralis Hi-Street, but packaged to suit the needs of operators with a requirement to run both on and off the road.
Completing the specification is a EuroTronic automated transmission, which is fitted as standard in all new Trakker models. Built for Iveco by ZF, it ensures maximum ease of operation for the driver and features a gear selector built into the steering column stalk for simple and ergonomic operation.
