The first of DAF’s new LF Construction model to come off the production line has been handed over to truck rental company Leeds Commercial at an event at the Leyland Trucks assembly plant on Thursday, 16 January.

Harrie Schippers, President of DAF Trucks, presented the keys to Chris Miller, Managing Director of Leeds Commercial. The 18 tonne Euro 6 truck is one of ten of the new DAF LF Construction model ordered by the Yorkshire company along with ten of the DAF CF Construction trucks.
Leeds Commercial, which trades as LC Vehicle Hire, is a family-run firm that has been involved in truck rental for more than 50 years and which currently operates in excess of 2,000 vehicles. The new DAFs will join its construction vehicle hire fleet and all will have tipper bodies fitted.
Speaking at the event, Chris Miller said: “I’m delighted to be at Leyland Trucks to receive the keys of the first of the new DAF LF Construction model to come off the line. “We chose this model, along with the CF Construction model, because it has been specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of the construction industry, which is one of the four market sectors that we serve. We’re looking forward to these trucks delivering the reliability, durability, fuel efficiency and environmental benefits that our customers expect.”
Harrie Schippers comments: “With the new LF model now in full production DAF has introduced a complete new range of efficient Euro 6 vehicles. I’m very pleased that such a highly regarded company as Leeds Commercial has taken delivery of the first new LF Construction model that left the Leyland production line.”
The 18-tonne LF Construction is specifically designed for application within the building industry. The vehicle shares a family resemblance with the larger CF Construction, thanks to the specific black grille with larger louvres and the distinctive bumper positioned higher to provide an approach angle of almost 25o, as well as increased ground clearance (32 cm). The LF Construction features distinctive steps and a 3 mm thick plate under the bumper to protect the radiator, important when driving on unpaved roads.
The LF Construction is available with the 6.7 litre PACCAR PX-7 engine with ratings of between 164 kW (220 hp) and 231 kW (310 hp). Of course, the new LF Construction also boasts the many unique qualities for which the LF is so highly regarded. The DAF LF has the smallest turning radius in its class for maximum manoeuvrability and a low kerb weight to allow highest payload.
