Cummins are exhibiting the latest G Series engine platform for the first time in Europe at IAA Hannover. The new in-line 6 cylinder engine is available at 11 litre and 12 litre displacements to meet global market requirements and emissions standards.
On display (hall 11, stand E18) is the ISG12, an ideal power solution for heavy duty trucks as well as buses, coaches, fire trucks and specialist vehicles. As announced in April, it was first installed in the new Foton Daimler Auman GTL truck.
Brett Merritt, Cummins Executive Director, On-Highway business said; “The engine was designed and developed by a team in the United States and supported by a global team with deep knowledge of regional market and customer needs. The result is a product which sets benchmark standards in weight, performance, fuel efficiency and cost of ownership”
It has a compact installation envelope with significant weight saving features. A sculptured block retains high rigidity while removing unnecessary mass. The use of composite material for the oil pan and valve cover provides further weight savings. This enables the ISG12 to achieve a low engine weight of 860 kg with a high power capability of over 500 hp and 2300 Nm peak torque.
“This delivers a high power-to-weight ratio which is 30 percent higher than the average for engines with a similar power range,” added Merritt.
Cummins leading component technologies, such as the Xtra-High Pressure Injection (XPI) fuel system and advanced wastegate turbocharging are incorporated in the engine, delivering exceptional response even at low engine rpm.
The ISG12 engine meets Euro 3, 4 and 5 as well as China NS4 emissions requirements to date, with Euro 6 and equivalent U.S. EPA versions expected.
