Latest additions to the semi-trailer fleet at Leicestershire-based Armstrong Logistics are 25 dry freight boxes built by the UK’s premier manufacturer of temperature-controlled transport equipment.
Gray & Adams has supplied five double-deck trailers and 20 single-deckers within the last six months, all of which wear the operator’s smart new livery.
Armstrong Logistics, which also runs insulated and refrigerated boxes, and dry freight curtain siders, built by Gray & Adams, is the approved logistics partner to one of Britain’s best-known supermarket retailers.
The company operates consolidated logistics centres on its headquarters site in Hinckley, and in Doncaster, as well as a reworking facility in Lutterworth. All are within easy reach of its high-profile customer’s own regional distribution centres.
Armstrong Logistics runs 62 semi-trailers and a dedicated fleet of 50 tractor units which is dominated by Mercedes-Benz – it has also just taken delivery from Dealer Midlands Truck & Van of its first Euro VI vehicles, half a dozen Actros 2545s with BigSpace cabs.
The new double-deck trailers are used to make collections from suppliers in France and Germany, as well as the UK and Ireland. Fitted with large tail-lifts, they meet the 4m height restriction required for operation on the Continent (Gray & Adams’ standard double-deck trailers are 4.9m high) and can each carry 50 Euro pallets.
Commenting on his company’s decision to purchase dry freight trailers from Gray & Adams, as well as the temperature-controlled versions for which the manufacturer is best known, Group Transport Manager Neil Watton says: “It’s all down to quality. Gray & Adams builds proper fleet trailers. They’re the best you can get, and so well manufactured that we know we can count on them for 20 years if needs be.”
He continues: “Gray & Adams products do command a price premium but experience has shown that we recover this, and a lot more besides, over the life of the trailer.
“What’s more, Gray & Adams provides a first class service. We can tailor the equipment to meet our precise requirements and the turnaround times are very fast. Its trailers invariably arrive on time and to the correct specification, while any minor adjustments we require are usually made there and then.”
Armstrong Logistics was founded in 1989 by Chairman Justin Armstrong, and has shared in the impressive growth of its main customer over recent years. The company operates on a round-the-clock basis, 365 days a year, and provides a next-day delivery service to the supermarket’s stores and RDCs.
