TOM Vehicle Rental has announced that it plans to add over 2,500 light commercial vehicles, 700 trucks and 500 trailers to its nationwide rental fleet for 2015 with an investment worth over £130 million.
The investment follows a strong end to the year, which saw T.O.M average utilisation of 94% on its rental fleet which has grown to over 9000 commercial vehicles.
In 2014, the business focused heavily on the reduction of the age profile of its fleet with an expansive vehicle renewal programme which seen it spend £99million on new vehicles, renewing around 40% of its total vehicle fleet and reporting a reduction in the average repairs and maintenance costs and vehicle off road rate as a result. A total of over 2500 vehicles were purchased during this period making its fleet one of the youngest in the commercial vehicle rental industry.
The business is grateful for the support of all of its customers, funding partners and key manufacturers during this period; Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Citroen, DAF, Montracon, Vauxhall and Scania and their respective dealer networks.
Last year also saw the business advance its network infrastructure with the acquisition of the Charthire business which is now fully integrated and set up on its own 2 acre site with LCV and HGV workshop in Nottingham to expand the company’s reach into the Midlands. Together with upgrading of some existing locations, the investment in improving infrastructure totalled nearly £3 million.
TOM Vehicle Rental Group managing Director Robert Stewart said: “We understand our role in our relationship with our customers, we believe in our commitment to the highest service levels possible and to be achieving this we need to keep the vehicles on the road and keep our customers’ businesses moving. Everyone at T.O.M embraces this and the significant investment into our fleet and infrastructure underlines our ongoing commitment to increasing customer service quality, reducing downtime and enhancing our status as a major player in the van, truck and trailer hire market”.
“Our intention is to double our fleet size in the next 3 years. During 2015, we will continue to strengthen our business to prepare for further growth with some key additional locations in the pipeline. Our dynamic and progressive management team have a robust strategy in place to ensure that we achieve our goal with our focus remaining firmly on delivering excellent customer service and excellent commercial vehicles without exception”
