Telematics entrepreneur Martin Port has teamed up with SmartWitness in-vehicle CCTV cameras to add video functionality to his BigChange mobile workforce technology system.
Port, 52, who sold Masternaut UK Ltd in 2009 for an estimated £20m, has stated it is essential for the next generation of telematics to include court admissible video footage and estimates that he will install 100,000 SmartWitness cameras in the next three years with new and existing BigChange clients.
BigChange has partnered with SmartWitness to offer a fully integrated solution, as part of its JourneyWatch Vehicle Tracking and JobWatch All-in-One Mobile Workforce Management systems, and the SmartWitness SVC1080 will now be offered as standard with those systems.
Camera events will be automatically logged and will enable management to know the exact time and location of any accidents or near-misses, and to have court admissible video evidence in the event of insurance claims.
Martin Port said: “Together with Smart Witness cameras, BigChange has a truly comprehensive risk management offering, protecting your business, your drivers and members of the public.
BigChange mobile workforce apps help companies to manage risk right across their operations. All customers have free use of a driver productivity app for Android phones and tablets. It automates and enforces daily driver checks, can manage risk assessments and provides tailored de-briefs and driver feedback.
“Video footage is a key part of any telematics offering nowadays and we looked at lots of other solutions to incorporate with our BigChange system but SmartWitness was the clear winner, based on spec, features, innovation, value, reliability, quality, support and price.”
JobWatch was launched three years ago by BigChange as the paperless way to plan, manage, schedule and track your mobile workforce.
The SmartWitness SVC1080 camera system will now be added to the offering and will provide instant video recording of an incident as well as full data including, speed, G force, date, location, and time. The camera is completely tamper proof and uses proprietary software unique to SmartWitness which is why the footage is admissible as court evidence.
The SmartWitness SVC 1080 works in tandem with the BigChange Rugged Mobile Computer to provide videos of incidents which are recorded automatically after a near miss or collision.
SmartWitness chief executive Paul Singh said: “Martin Port is a leading figure in the world of Telematics and Big Change Apps is growing quickly by providing an industry leading product and service. This ethos is similar to our own at SmartWitness and makes us the ideal partner for companies looking for the best in-vehicle camera solutions.”
SmartWitness evidence allows insurance claims to be filed in record time, which significantly reduces costs. Insurers have found that just 2% of incidents recorded on SmartWitness cameras result in disputed claims – against an industry norm of 40% for all motor claims.
