Paragon Software Systems, the UK’s leading provider of routing and scheduling solutions, has continued its support of award-winning social enterprise Streetscape. As a result, the company will be sponsoring two new apprentices within the South London initiative, which aims to train long-term unemployed people between the ages of 18 and 25 in landscape gardening.

Streetscape V1The 12-month apprenticeships are designed to develop the skills, experience and attributes needed to move into and retain work. This includes learning soft and hard landscaping skills and working onsite for a wide range of residential, corporate and commercial projects across a number of London Boroughs, with the aim of gaining a Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture.

Having previously supported three apprenticeships over the past six years and provided funding for much-needed equipment such as mowers and vans, Paragon has now committed to helping the latest apprentices – David North and Ed Beattie. Both were selected by Streetscape having demonstrated a strong desire to work in an outdoor trade, along with a drive and willingness to learn.

William Salter, Managing Director of Paragon Software Systems commented: “We are very proud to continue our support for such a worthwhile and valuable cause. It is highly satisfying to witness the enthusiasm and commitment of these young people once given the opportunity to develop a rewarding career path. We have worked closely with the founders since Streetscape’s launch in 2010 to not only provide donations and sponsorship, but also act as business mentors wherever possible.”

Guy Watts, Co-Founder of Streetscape said: “The number of young people claiming Job Seekers Allowance for over six months in London has risen by 224 per cent in the last four years, so our aim is to make a difference to the young people behind these statistics. It is the generosity and support of companies like Paragon that is helping those who are long-term unemployed to gain the life-changing skills, experience and attributes need for a successful career.”
