A number of UK truck operators have recently kitted out their workshops with new alignment equipment to ensure they can support the latest vehicles.

Investment has been made in the Haweka Axis500 wheel aligners with additional calibration tools to cope with the new ACC and EBA systems now appearing on new trucks in the UK. Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) are advanced systems that help the driver to keep a safe distance from other traffic ahead. In order for dealers to set the adjustment on the radar sensors, the wheels and axles need to be correctly aligned. ACC and EBA is already appearing in the UK and became mandatory in November 2015.

This new calibration tool, unique to Haweka, can also be used to calibrate lane guard cameras – the system that monitors when the vehicle leaves its lane without the driver having indicated.

The Axis500 is the leading alignment system in the UK, taking less than 10 minutes to accurately measure every angle on a truck in the as driven position – there is no need to lift the vehicle. The Axis500 alignment system can be used on twin steers, rigids, semi-trailers and buses.

Many truck dealers have told Haweka that they purchased the system to enable them to support the latest vehicles, which now feature state of the art driver safety systems. To support the vehicles fitted with the latest technology, commercial workshops have found that they need Haweka Axis alignment and calibration equipment.

Dealers are also aware of the importance of correct wheel alignment and its impact on fuel consumption, tyre wear and driver safety. Correct wheel alignment saves up to 10% on fuel costs and increases tyre life by up to 25%.

With increased tyre and fuel costs and new safety system technology it’s important that a truck’s wheels are correctly aligned – the Axis500 ACC from Haweka is helping commercial dealers do this.
