News that Transport for London has finally issued its consultation into lorry Direct Vision Standards and a new permit scheme for lorries entering London, has been met with caution by the Road Haulage Association.

The RHA will study the consultation in detail but the initial concern is the requirement for all lorries (over 12t), to have a special permit to enter London. In addition, there is no clarity on vehicle star  ratings.

Commenting, RHA chief executive Richard Burnett said: “It is not acceptable that the ratings will not be known until after the consultation ends.

“However, we welcome the Mayor’s support for a comprehensive and international approach to vehicle standards and we look forward to working with the Mayors team in support of getting the best road safety outcomes for Londoners and the rest of the UK.”
