One of the North West’s leading logistics firms is driving business forward with a £100,000 investment in I.T. AKW Group has installed high speed microwave internet access across its sites at Trafford Park.AKW1

“As AKW looks to grow its turnover to over £25 million over the next four years it is important our I.T. systems are able to facilitate this expansion. This is why we are continuing to invest so significantly in this area,” said Donn Houldsworth, Group Compliance and IT Manager for AKW Group.

The company – which provides extensive warehouse, transport, contract packing and international freight movement services – has also installed new servers to run alongside its existing system providing added security for its 24 hours a day operations.

AK Worthington Ltd, the transport arm of AKW Group, has invested in a new labelling system allowing customers to generate and print out their own consignments labels as they place orders.

“The labelling system gives the customer the control and assurance of knowing that they have labelled their goods before they have left their site. These labels are scanned when they come into us so the customer will be able to see where their consignments are. It also means we can ensure they get to where they need to be as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Donn.

The labelling system links in to a freight optimisation platform which allows AK Worthington Ltd to optimise the load of each vehicle and plan the most efficient journey routes. As well as saving the company thousands of pounds on fuel, it is also good for the environment by reducing carbon emissions.

This will also allow the customer to receive real time updates on where their consignments are from the moment it leaves the warehouse to when it arrives at the customer’s premises.

“We aim to update all our systems on a three year rolling basis to ensure we continue to provide the best for our new and existing customers and help us to achieve our growth targets,” said Julian Richards, managing director of AKW Group.
