GE-BE Transport’s Operations Director is leaving the trucks and trailers behind to tackle a 105-mile walk in memory of a friend.

Jason Green, a director at Palletforce founder member GE-BE Transport, will start the walk from the firm’s depot in King’s Lynn on May 4.

He will then spend four days walking to the Palletforce Hub in Burton-upon-Trent – an average of a marathon, 26.2 miles, per day.

The 48-year-old is completing the challenge to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association as a friend of his, Paul Collins, died in 2011 after battling the condition for six years

“I knew when Paul passed away that I wanted to do something in his memory but I didn’t know what,” said Jason, who lives in King’s Lynn.

“This will be definitely be a challenge as I am certainly not a fitness fanatic – I’m more used to driving to the shop, which is about a mile away, than walking.

“But I have started training now, I’m walking to and from work and I’m planning on doing some long walks.

Once he arrives at the Palletforce Hub after completing his walk, he will be able to hitch a ride back to King’s Lynn with one of his company’s trucks as they make daily deliveries and collections from the central Hub.

“This is a real challenge for Jason and everyone at Palletforce will be supporting him and routing for him to succeed in this fantastic effort to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association,” said Michael Conroy, Chief Executive of Palletforce.

“I am sure he will get a warm welcome when he arrives at the Hub and will enjoy a well deserved rest on the way home in one of his own trucks.”
