Supermarket retailer Heron Foods Limited has taken delivery of eight Scania P 400 LA4x2MNA tractor units and placed an order for 11 more to be delivered later this year.
Supplied by Scania (Great Britain) Limited, each truck is covered by a five year repair and maintenance agreement, based on 140,000 kilometres per year, with all work to be carried out by Scania (Great Britain) Limited’s Hull depot.
The vehicles are now operating out of Heron Foods’ Hull distribution centre, serving the company’s 230+ supermarkets in the Midlands, Northeast and the Northwest of England. Each unit is hauling a 32-ft ‘urban’ trailer, which offer better manoeuvrability than the three-axle rigids previously operated by the firm.
“The specification of these vehicles is ideal for restricted-access High Street situations and their low cabs are well-suited to multi-drop delivery operations,” comments Karl Dawson, Head of Logistics for Heron Foods. “Our drivers are also extremely positive about Scania’s fully-automated Opticruise gear selection system, which makes driving effortless. In terms of operating economy, the early indications are extremely positive with fuel consumption already a mile per gallon better than other vehicles in our fleet.
“An additional plus point is that our local Scania depot is only eight miles away, so its conveniently placed for us. It is also open 24-hours a day, which means maintenance can be carried out with minimum disruption to our operating schedules.”
