The Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) is continuing its campaign to have Ireland’s road tax regime overhauled in the forthcoming budget.
IRHA President Verona Murphy, told HGVIreland.com that the association is pushing hard for an overhaul of the current motor tax system.
“Our main priority for this year is to have the current road tax regime overhauled to equal the model and cost of our nearest neighbours in Northern Ireland. That submission is currently with the Minister of Finance, Michael Noonan, and we will continue to lobby the government right up to the budget on October,” she said.
“We are already €400 euros higher in our cost base as Irish hauliers versus the Northern Ireland hauliers and this issue has to be addressed,” Ms. Murphy added
