Preston-based Smalley Plant Hire has taken delivery of its first Andover Trailers plant body, mounted to a 26 tonne DAF CF85 6×2 rigid, which will be used to transport excavators and dumper trucks to customers around the North West.
The family run company is so impressed with the new body, owner Mark Smalley, has vowed he will only ever order his commercial vehicle bodywork from Andover Trailers in future.
He says: “We’re delighted with the new plant body. It’s our first bit of kit from Andover Trailers but we certainly won’t be going anywhere else again – the team are absolutely fantastic and the body does exactly what we need it to.
“As we are transporting excavators and dumpers – and a whole range of other heavy plant – we needed a body that would be up to the job and not let us down. Andover Trailers has delivered on this and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.”
The bespoke-built LPPB26 body features 3.7m long x 1m wide power toe ramps with a hydraulic sideways function to close the ramps together, designed to allow Smalley Plant Hire the flexibility to load narrow machines onto the body easily.
The new vehicle also incorporates a number of safety features including hydraulic steady legs, which ensures a stable platform for loading and unloading, six pairs of lashing points in the floor to hold down the load securely and five pairs of working at height post sockets to enable the company to erect a safety system when required.
As with the majority of Andover Trailers’ rigid bodies, the body has a deck height up to five inches lower than a regular plant body, enabling Smalley Plant Hire to benefit from low ramp and beavertail approach angles.
“We have built up a reputation in the North West for supplying top quality equipment and that too is what we expect from our suppliers – Andover Trailers hasn’t disappointed,” adds Smalley.
The body also includes an electric Superwinch with radio and remote control, groucer bars fitted to the outer edge of the beavertail and main section of the ramp to help tracked machines maintain traction during loading and unloading, and a heavy-duty plastic tool box.
The vehicle supplied through Lancashire DAF was exhibited at Vertikal Days – the lifting and access vehicles exhibition at Haydock Park, Merseyside, at the end of June.
Smalley Plant Hire offers a range of plant and tool hire solutions throughout the North West of England. The company’s vast selection of equipment ranges from tools needed for home maintenance to machines for contract and large construction jobs.
