    The next step in Stena Line’s ongoing sustainability strategy is to test new environmentally friendly energy options for the propulsion of its vessels. Stena Line recently signed a contract with Callenberg Technology Group for batteries with a total capacity of 1 MWh which will be installed on the Stena Jutlandica, which operates between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn.     2017 marked another record trading year for leading ferry company Stena Line across its travel and freight services.  Freight volumes on its Belfast to Cairnryan, Liverpool and Heysham routes exceeded a record 514 000 units, which represents a 3% year on year increase.  Car volumes topped 360 000, a 2.5% year on year increase with over 1.5m passengers accounting for a similar 2.5% annual increase.  Coach traffic delivered the biggest increase at 10.5% underscoring Belfast’s ongoing tourist boom.

    Earlier this year Stena Line announced an increase to its freight capacity on the route Rotterdam-Europoort to Harwich (January 2018) by replacing the current two RoRo vessels by two larger ships.  Stena Line has now confirmed plans to also increase capacity on the route Rotterdam-Killingholme in January 2018. Stena Line will consequently increase its total capacity from Europoort by approximately 20%
